As a WI, we are lucky to have Saltaire Brewery on our doorstep. Once a month it opens its doors for “Beer Club” and Jenny had the great idea of going along as a group. The Beer Club is like a mini festival with three bars and 13 pumps serving Saltaire ales and a guest beers. Not only was it the perfect opportunity to try the delights of ale, it was also great chance to get to know each other.
It’s just a short walk along the canal from Saltaire, so off we went on a rainy Friday night, but the weather couldn’t dampen our spirits. Beer Club is a popular event so it was ‘one in, one out’ but the queue went down quickly and i was soon inside consuming a nice pint of Saltaire’s hoppy Cascade Pale.
Between the groups of men with pints in hand, you found the girls from Saltaire WI, all enjoying a tasty beer and soaking up the atmosphere. The beer of choice for us was the Saltaire Blonde, which is one of breweries most popular and well know beers. A few of us were also enjoying the stouts and other pale ales, but whether it was hoppy, malty or flowery there was a drink for all our tastes. Everyone was willing to try something new and experiment with different ales. I think we may now have some real ale converts and for the non-beer drinkers there was plenty of perry and cider. Some of it was pretty strong and tasted like juice so it’s was a bit dangerous.
It was lovely to meet new people and get to know everyone, and after lots of chatting, beer drinking and a dropped pint (whoops that was me) it was off home. With slightly rosier cheeks and warmer hearts after an enjoyable evening meeting new friends.
Definitely one to be done again, can’t wait till next month. Who’s coming?
