March 2019 – Yorkshire Air Ambulance

This month we enjoyed a fascinating and fact-filled talk from Helen, a volunteer with the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. While we have all seen the yellow helicopters passing overhead, we knew very little about the workings of the air ambulance. It costs £12,000 a day to keep this vital service in the air – the service is not funded by the government. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance run two helicopters, flying from 6 a.m. to midnight, 365 days a year, and can reach 90% of the Yorkshire population within 20 minutes.

We had time at the end of the meeting to purchase YAA-themed souvenirs and enjoy a range of yummy cakes: for this moth, we have donated our members donations for refreshments to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. If you would like to donate to this very worthwhile cause, you can do so through their website.
