Happy third birthday to us! We launched in September with a room full of enthusisatic women, and three years later we are still going strong. Our membership for the last year has been just over 80, ranging in age from mid-twenties to mid-eighties, and we have averaged around 50 women at each meeting. Thank you to all our members, who help to make Saltaire WI such a lively and friendly community group.
To celebrate our third birthday there was of course cake – a birthday cake, accompanied by muffins, gin and tonic loaf cake and bakewell tart. All were sampled enthusastically by members! We started the evening with our AGM: Victoria gave her secretary’s report, focusing on the additional groups which meet outside of the main meeting. Liz then gave the treasurer’s report, with an overview of our finances – more details to follow when the books are back from the auditors. Fiz was unanimously re-elected as president, and we said a very big thank you to Debbie who is stepping down as membership secretary after three years.
Looking ahead to next year, we have chosen to support and fundraise for Home Start Bradford, who will be speaking to us about their work at our November meeting. Get your thinking caps on for ways to raise money for this deserving local charity! We are also challenging all our members to complete the Saltaire WI centenary challenge – we may only be three years old, but 2015 is the centenary of the founding of the WI.
Once the official business was out of the way, we settled down to the most important part of the evening – Bingo! We had a special guest caller: Glinda the good witch arrived to make all our dreams come true…
First to a line won a bottle of champagne, and first to full house won her membership for next year! Congratulations to both our winners.
If you would like to join us, details of our next meeting can be found here.
